The Town of Bansko
Bansko is situated in a valley at an altitude of 950m and is ringed by the Pirin and Rila mountains. It is 160 km from Sofia and 60 km from Blagoevgrad. Bansko is rich in history and is a popular tourist centre and makes a good base for outings in the Pirin and Rila mountains.
The old town centre is full of traditional Bulgarian buildings, some now 'Mehanas' - local taverns with a warm welcome serving traditional Bulgarian fare.
